Chief's Message

Welcome to the website for Spokane County Fire District 8.  I hope that you will find the information here helpful as we strive to be accessible and transparent while pursuing our mission to Protect, Serve, and Educate.

Chief NielsenI am honored to serve as Fire Chief of this outstanding organization. As a Spokane native, my career in the fire and emergency services began here at Fire District 8 in 1984 when I joined the organization as a Fire Explorer Cadet.  Since then, I’ve had the privilege to serve in different roles with fire and emergency services agencies across the Northwest.  In 2003, I was afforded the opportunity to return to Fire District 8 as the Division Chief of Training.  I subsequently served as the Deputy Chief of Operations from 2004 until my appointment as Fire Chief in 2013.

I’m very proud of the more than one hundred men and women that make up Spokane County Fire District 8.  They are an exceptional team that loves the work they do and are ready to serve you and your family at a moment’s notice in your time of need.  As an agency, we are committed to selfless, compassionate service provided at the highest level possible with the funds we’ve been entrusted with.  In fact, over 93% of our surveyed customers rated the services provided by Fire District 8 as “Excellent”.  If you have any questions about our service, or suggestions about how we can serve you better, please feel free to e-mail me at tnielsen@scfd8.org, or give me a call either at the office (509) 926-6699 or at home (509) 535-7740.

Warm regards,

Tony
